How it began

Hello my name is Andrew Gilmer and this adventure into breeding Wirehaired Pointing Griffons started with some long term planning for a replacement to my old Griff Crockett. I was looking for a new pup for my daughter to learn to train and hunt with for her first year hunting at age 9.

Like most people I started making phone calls in the fall as the thought of my aging Griff made me think about needing to find a replacement so I was not without a dog. Several conversations with breeders and phone calls led me to Stoney Ridge Kennels in Wisconsin. I was not able to get on John’s list for that coming year but I was able to get on the next years list, so I waited. The next year rolled around and I decided at that point that my oldest daughter Virginia should have her first dog and I would eventually get a pup out of her female.

Virginia and I made the trip from NE Washington State to Wisconsin to pick up her pup. I have always liked the darker colored pups and with only one picture of the litter all I asked John was we get the darkest colored female out of the litter, as I knew whatever pup I got out of his litter we would be happy with.

After getting CC started training I had a busy summer schedule so I sent Virginia and her pup over to a friend in Montana to get some more training before field season that first year. Virginia got hooked with the training bug and the next year she was back out in Montana working with my friend for a summer vacation from home and getting some finishing work on CC for the NAVHDA Natural Ability (NA) test (delayed do to Covid). Virginia (11) ran CC in the NA test and received a prize 2.

It was after that testing I was reintroduced to Phil Matteson of Cascade Griffons by a mutual friend. I really liked what Phil has going on for his breeding program so we got CC signed with Cascade Griffons for Sage at Stud.

We went into things only wanting one litter for a replacement pup for myself. We started getting calls and folks were really interested with what we had going so as of 2023 we will be on our third litter.

We qualified for a breeders award out of the first litter through NAVHDA. Virginia ran my pup Moxie and prized out of the first litter. Two pups have ran Natural Ability out of the second litter and both prized Virginia running one of them. All pups are out hunting with their owners enjoying what they are seeing.

We are located in NE Washington State about 45 minutes from Spokane for those that need to fly in and pick up a pup.
